During holidays many children are involved in many different activities, like travelling, studying, some just playing at home, here in Limbe we fine many young children coming for holidays to study computer which is a good signed.
We have children of 4years and above for computer studies, this children are very curious, they want to know more about information technology. some of them can read very well, can type very well using the English and German keyboards, they can also work very well with the mouse. Equally we used a projector or beamer for teaching since we have many students and limited computers installed. This projector enable them to listen and see all what the teacher is teaching after which they do the same in groups of 3 to 5 persons per machine.
For the children bellow 7years old, we teach them using the application program Gcompris and ktouch, Gcompris is very good for the children. For the children above 7years old to 10years old we teach them using the application program call ktouch, Computer Awareness, Openoffice Writer. For the students above 10years old to 15years old they have Ktouch, Computer awareness, OpenOffice.org Writer, OpenOffice.org spreadsheet, OpenOffice.org Presentation. Also, for those above 18years, they can study other things like designing simple webpages with html, Programing with kturtle, php and Database with Mysql. The Association of Linux Friends and Hitip has received support from Dahlia Vocational Training Center Kumba, following report of our activities in Nditam and Ngambe Tika 2010 and 2011 they were very impressed and decided to support us with 100 wheel chairs for handicap people in this areas, we are very grateful for that. Please you can also support in your own little way. You can support our social work by providing writting materials for children, dresses, computers, solar bulbs and what have you. In the cartons you can fine the wheelchairs and a sample of the wheelchairs, you can see Issa Nyaphaga. Please contact DAHLIA VOCATIONAL TRAINING CENTER KUMBA and appreciate them, you can also support them to support more people.
As you can see the Association of Linux Friends has many students, Many computers, but lack space or a structure to install more computers for children to have more practical work done, so we are calling on your support to build a structure for the Association. The Association of Linux Friends Working with other Associations and the Cameroon National Youth Council. This group of persons decided to visit the S.D.O of Kumba. Students from State and private schools coming to benefit from practical computer work with the Association of Linux friends because of lack of electricity in their own schools. So we need much support this year to install 12volts computers in this schools with solar energy.
