It is with immense joy that the Association of Linux friends welcome you all to the official visit of the Divisional Delegate of youth Affairs Fako.
The Association of Linux Friends Mokindi is a Swiss base organisation, non-profit making with the aim to empower the underprivileged in the society. The founder of the school being Pauli Michel Raymon, the Association has been existing for five years today, it started in Bamenda on April 2006 and the Limbe branch which is now the main branch in October 2007. The Association works with the Linux operating system which is a Free and Open Source Software.
The Association of Linux Friends Mokindi offers courses for free with a monthly registration of 3300frs. The school has graduated four batches of students who are now working in good places like the Presbyterian Printing Press, Orange Limbe, MTN Limbe, Tradex Limbe II etc.
The Association of Linux Friends has participated three times in the National Youth Day celebration that is 43rd, 44th, and 45th edition of the national youth day celebration. The school has been celebrating the international software freedom day since 2007, and has also been receiving t-shirt, balloons and other materials to make the day colorful.
The Association has installed a network with thin client in Presbyterian Girls School Mile two Limbe, Goethe Institute Bastos Yaounde and is now looking forward to do the same in the University of Yaounde I, all these gearing to empower the youths of Cameroon.
The Association has trained and qualified teachers coming each year from Switzerland and other part of Europe to give quality training to the youths of this community and Cameroon at large. Linux Friends is operating in Mokindi New road Limbe, Sisia quarter Bamenda, Mimboman chapel troix Yaounde and Centre Culturelle Kribi. The school has one of its course program (php), which helps in paying bills. Thus helping the community to avoid wasting time and standing in cues waiting to pay electricity and water bills.
The association of Linux Friends give out material like projector on rent to generate income, for running the activities of the Association, The Association also gets money from foreign organisation Like Revamp, Faith International Rescue Ministry, in addition some students have support the school, Mr Agbor supported the school with a table, Elisabeth Lyonga, Daniel Luma, Jofi celine, Jing Fondoh Richard, Ngobalema Susan supported the school with benches and not leaving out Chief George Dikanjo and Chief Alami Ekane for their numerous support.
Despite all these achievements, our establishment has been facing some challenges such as limited class rooms, and no permanent site. The absence of exoneration is posing great problem to the Association given the fact that with the presence of this document, it would have been easier to clear equipments at the port which can facilitate studies.
Finally this speech and Association of Linux Friends is really not about the Delegate of Youth Affairs Fako and his entourage , it is about our community, it about the direction that the youth have to go to get themselves out of poverty and unemployment. As you can see, there are many new things the Association can try that will make our lives better and more interesting. you can learn something new, and you can change your environment.
