THE ETHNICTY OF A WOVIA/BOTALAND MAN

The history of the Wovia and Botaland people could be traced through a man named Ekande. Ekande was a man from Bubi village in Malabo(Equatorial Guinea) who sailed through the atlantic Ocean and landed at the coast of Bomboko. Having found an abofe, he decided to get married to a woman of Bomboko origin named Ekoli. They both had to migrate from Bomboko via the sea and finally landed at Botaland.

This was because of the inter village wars that characterized this period. Hence the name BOTA was derived from a mixture of BO for Boobe and TA for Bota, all villages of Equatorial Guinea. Bota land was founded.Ekande and Ekoli having found themselves in an island of peace, gave birth to many children of whom were three boys namely Ekema, Mbenda and Bwendele. It is these three who started the partrileage of the wovia/Botaland people. Ekema was the father and head of the Wonya Molungu family .Mbenda also posed as the father and head of the Wosama family while Bwendele started the Wonya lunga family.

In trying to create order within the settlement,Ekema, the eldest son was designated as the chief of wovia/ Botaland clan. His lineage of the Wonya Molungu family retains the right to the village throne till date.It is the royal family of the clan. As years passed by,these three brothers also got wives from bomboko maymu village respectivetly.

The village later on became insufficient to accommodate them; so some had to transfer their families to another place. The main land was nick named Molondi meaning the place is full. Gradually as the village expanded in population, some moved westwards to start the settlement, today called Wovia meaning you will know . Today, it is universally acknowledged that the Wovia/Botaland man originated from Boobe and Bomboko.
