Installation of Linux Operating system in some school in cameroon by Linux Friends Limbe
Linux friends Limbe had the opportunity to install network with thin clients in some schools in cameroon, thin clients are low power computers and very small in size, they are 5 watts computers, consume very little as far as energy is concerned. Friends from switzerland like Hannes visited this school.
First (we) one teacher and some students of Linux Friends wanted to know about the materials of the Presbyterian Girl's Secondary school in Limbe. The result was not positive: most of the computers were not going good, even as thin clients. so we propose to install an x2go network with 5 working places.
When the material from switzerland arrived Cameroon, we made the installation and it works without big problems. We install a server with ubuntu 9.10 with x2goserver-home, as the network works well we tested it with machines of the school and we could work with 11 clients: all this with an old 10 megabits hub and 1.5 GB ram on the server and the thin clients are mini itx board wih geode 500 Mhz CPU and 250 mb ram von pcengines (www.pcengines.ch). The server have mysql,php5 as basis. we have installed moodle as e-learning program and kdeedu. thanks to x2go team and all other friends, who help us in this project.
