THE MOUNT CAMEROON TRIP

On the 12th of febuary 2010 the Association of linux Friends went for a trip at mount cameroon. We went on the trip five of us, two whites and three blacks two ladies and three men. We left the house at 6:10 am and when we arrived the tourism office we were directed to ECHO Tourism office. We arrived at the echo tourism office at 7:50 am. We asked a few questions and the people explained them to us. They gave us one guard to ensure our security at the mountain and five porters to carry our logages to the mountain. At 8:53 am the lady on duty ask the guard to take us to the point where we were to start the climing. We started climing at exactly 9:00 am. The trip was very nice at the beginning but ended up very bad. At the starting point the hight was 1100m. We passed through the rain forest, the first and the second resting point.

The first was 1350 and the second was 1850m. We later reached hurt one and had some rest. We continued untill we reach an area called END OF TREEE LINE. There we had to dance and apeaced the gods of the mountain called EFASAMOTO meaning HALF MAN HALF ANIMAL, Picture one show the place where we dance to apeace the gods of the mountain.

The guard explained to us that the sacrifies is done with palm wine, palm oil, a white cock, colanut, and a bottle of wine to apeace the gods. He said this sacrifice is done every year to apeace the gods and that when this is done, they believe that any eruption that occures will end in the mountain and will not reach the villages around. They also said that when this is done, the parents then go back to the village and share a bottle of palm wine to show that the sacrifice is complite. They also said that their fore fathers believed that when an eruption is taking place in the mountain it meeans that the gods are angry. We then continued till when we reached hurt two where we spend the night.

The house on picture two was not realy good but we managed to spend the night there till the next morning. The next morning we had to reach the sumit. But it could not work because it was raining and the weather was not good. We tried to go

but the weather became too bad and we could not continue. we only succeded to reach hurt three and because of the bad weather we return and spend the night in hurt two and the next day left for limbe.

I discovered that there was too much cold in the mountain and as i studied in Geography the higher you go the colder it becomes. It is very difficult to go right to the sumit when the weather is bad. In picture five you could see chanceline going up the mountain happily but picture seven shows her coming back in a very sad situation.
