Mokindi village is an ancestral bakweri village, and one of the village that join to make up the fiften villages of the limbe sub-division, Fako division, south west province republic of cameroon. Its historical back ground is dated far-back as about the seventh centuries with originatioin from the BAMBOKO CLAN. The founder through a hunting expedition,found themselves some were between ETINDE FOREST down the chariot of mount Fako, down to present site. Finding that the place was good, they name it (MOKINDI) meaning habitation or were people can stay.

As a very small and undeveloped area,there were no Schools, Tared roads, Hospitals, Companies e.t.c . children walk on foot through footpaths to attend schools in very far distances. The girl child was trained to use kitchen and serve their husbands only, instead of going to school. This far distant schools helped in the slowing down of the learning process. But how ever,these hardworking people were determined to succeed no matter what. After school, they will still run to the farm and help their perents. Taredroads were virtually absent,people could scarcely see vichcles. The main transportation means was sometimes by local horses.

Hospitals were not heard in the area,talk less of companies. The main activities which were being carried out by the people were farming and fishing. They sustained their lives from their catch and harvest which they go for "trade by bater". Trade by bater was the ancient method of exchanging goods , since money was not there,people offered cocoyams in exchange for fish, plantain for meat,cloth for vegetable.This market which was at the beachside, was called"MOVONGA MO NJAI LIWE ".

Their values were measured in quantity such as a bag of fish for two bunches of plantains. As time went on, strangers started migrating into Mokindi. As peace lovers and welcoming,they accepted the outsiders as part of them and gave them every thing. The strangers brought up their families and expanded. The Village was Governed by the Chief ALAMI EKANE, the father of the present chief. He was anwserable to the paramuont chief MANGA WILLIAMS, who was living in the main town. This paramount chief had messengers who acted as policemen,any crime committed in Mokindi, the chief will send message to the paramount chief, who eventually send guards to punish the criminal.

As time went on ,schools and hospitals came and development started coming in. The development rate of the village was so fast such that the area became too vast. The chief then decided to creat quaters with their quaterhead. Problems were then channel to quater heads, who enventually report to the chief. The village continued to expand with modern buidings. Today, Mokindi is boasting with a School,Hospital, Secondary road, e.t.c. virtually, the population of this area is now over six thousand inhabitance,but the real indigens are less. because of this, the tradition of the people seems to disappear,but in reality it still exist. They have great respect for their native land and people living there. This has brought about the peoples respect and loyalty for their chief.
