REPORT OF SFD CAMEROON-LIMBE
The software freedom day in cameroon was a success eventhought it was raining . We had female Football match on the 19th of september 2008, we made radio announcements and we also had door to door sensitization in Isokolo, Wovia, and Botaland, We actually explain to this people the advantages of free and open source software, we talk to them about Linux operating system .
september 2008, we had match pass on one of the street in Limbe , followed by the presentation of Free and open source software, distribution of linux CDs and installation of Ubuntu on the machines of invited guest and also linux users, presentation of the Linux school in Limbe.
40% of the participant were students from the university of Buea in the department of computer science, 30%we students of the linux school Limbe and 30% we people who have ideas on linux and windows especially those running cyber café in limbe. The linux Group in Yaounde join those in Limbe to celabrate this day while those in Bamenda and Kumbo did their own in Bamenda.
Many things were explain especially as the participant ask so many question such as :
-Different kind of open source software, what is a virus? how installation is done , we explain to them .swap ,root,.... how to resized the different file system. we explain the advantages of linux , moodle courses ................ Actually we give much thanks to the SFD organisers and we also thank Pauli Michel Raymond Who has come to cameroon many times and has open a linux school .He is like an eye opener to cameroonian as far as free and open source software is concerned.
