A REPORT ON THE PRESENTATION OF FLEXCELL SOLAR PANELS.

On the 5th of June 2010, the Association of Linux Friend had a presentation of flexcell solar panel.It was about using solar materials like solar panels and batteries to generate and store electrical energy for consumption in our homes,schools,community and business places which is more economical as compare to the AES sonel.

The preparation of the presentation ground started at exactly 1:30pm with some important personalities like Michel Pauli, Ngainku Chanceline, Samjela Paul, Nemchu Linus and Mr Richard who mounted the carnopy and arranging the chairs, Michel Pauli and Jean Loic set the Computer on table and connected it to the solar panels outside.

Participants came all away from Buea, Mutengene,and around Limbe. They all arrived by 3:30pm. The presentaion started at 4:00pm, with an opening prayer from Brother Sampson, followed by a welcome speach by Michel Pauli. Actually the things of the presentation were the once people expected, like to alleviate poverty in the community, use the solar energy where there is no hydro-electricity power station, like some remote areas.

The master of ceremony (Samjela Paul) introduce some of the things that were to be presented by students of the Association of Linux Friends, such as mathematics by Arrah Arnold, Geography Jean Loic ,Nayaboh by Boris, presentation of computers with solar energy by Chanceline, presentation of materials by Michel. They did all these illustrations using the computers which were connected to the solar panels.

NaYaBoh is an Internet Proxy Server, especially designed to enhance Internet access in developing countries. So if you run a Cybar (Internet place), a Classroom or any other computer network this project can help you for free.

• It caches web content like pictures, style-sheets, etc. Whenever a page is accessed the second time NaYaBoh will deliver web-content directly. NaYaBoh is using the squid software to do this.
• It blocks advertisement and by doing so it prevents unneccessary downloads. NaYaBoh is using the adzapper software to achieve this.
• It caches your DNS requests and answers them diectly. NaYaBoh is using dnsmasq to do so.

Furthermore NaYaBoh eases network management by providing a DHCP server. So that all you computers will get their network configuration (e.g. IP) automatically.

The presenters were very fluent and met the expectations of the participants. At the end of each presentation, questions were asked by the participants, and answers were given. So they were so excited because they learned many things, and promise to take part in other activities that may concern the Association of Linux Friends next time.

The objective of this presentation was to create awareness and the sense of solidarity in the community. And to impact a new technology to the people of the community. The presentation ended with some light refreshment.

   Solar energy : The solution?

    

   Do you know that for more than 100 years, when oil was found in Texas, many people, many scientists said: “now is the energy problem solved for ever”. 100 years later show us how wrong all these very intelligent scientists were. I think it is the same with the solar energy: many look at it as THE solution: it is clean, sun come every day, and, and. So what? Go on with this technology. I say yes go on, but it will never be the solution, as the petrol was, is will never be THE solution, why?

   Many reasons of course, but the main reasons are:

    

   1. the money: the leitmotiv of most activities in this society, here in Africa as well in Europe is money. The company which search for oil, search not because they need oil for ourselves, but because they want to make money with it. The same for the big agro company: del monte plant bananas here, why? Because the owner of del monte want bananas to eat? No, they plant bananas to make money. Every body knows, that many people, especially children die, because of lack of food, why because of money. Some big (small too) companies are happy, when is a lack of food, so they can make higher prices and so more money, but but … may be are people starving, who care: it brings money! The same happen with energy: the company, which produce energy, make it for money, if some people have more because they can pay and other have nothing, who care? Important the company makes money. We want another way: we make energy to help the people, not to make money. It does not mean we can produce for free, but it means we produce for the people who don\
