The Association of Linux Friends is a legalized Non profit making Association, with it objective is to provide socio-economic and humanitarian aid to the less developed and developing nations.

It was introduced in Cameroon in Bamenda in the North West Region of the country while other branches were opened later with the pioneer of the Association being a Swiss by name PAULI MICHEL RAYMOND presently based in Limbe. Here in Limbe, it started in a fishing village of Wovia from which it was transferred to Isokolo New Road precisely at Aminatou Square. Later after some years also, it was transferred to its permanent site at Mokindi Hill-top still along the New Road.

Linux friends have graduated eight (11) batches of students with certificates countersigned by the Delegate of Youth Affairs and Civic Education for Fako. These students normally undergo a two months internship after which their evaluation forms are brought back to school from their various places of internship, examined by the school and certificates awarded during graduations upon presentation of their internship reports.

 Objective of the Association

  • The prime aim of Linux friends is to serve humanity especially the underprivileged members of the society and instill in the youths a strong spirit of self responsibility.
  • One of the most important objectives of the Association is to promote solidarity and the spirit of togetherness amongst people and the youths as they partake in the social, economic and political activities nationally and internationally.
  • Linux friends is also aimed at eradicating unemployment and poverty by creating many job opportunities or preparing the youths for employment formally or informally both at the national and international levels.
  • The Association is also aimed at creating universal computer science at the primary, secondary, technical and technological level.

In a nutshell, the Association has a good number of objectives for its existence all aimed at helping the underprivileged youths.

Courses offered in the Association

The Association of Linux Friends offers studies in three domains that is ;

  • The Beginners’ Class

The beginners separated into the morning session which begins at 9:00am at ends at 12:00 noon and the evening session which begins from 5:00pm and ends at 8:00pm.

Courses offered at the beginners’ class are;

  • OpenOffice. Org Writer
  • OpenOffice. Org Calc or Spreadsheets
  • OpenOffice.Org Impress or Presentation
  • Computer awareness
  • Scribus
  • HTML which stands for Hyper Text Markup Language and deals with web development serving as the basis for programming
  • The Advanced Class

While at the advanced class the courses; offered are;

  • Database
  • Networking
  • Programming
  • software installation
  • Linux Command.
  • The Solar Class

In the Solar class we offer;

  • Solar calculation
  • Solar installation

All in all, the Association of Linux has registered a good number of successes though the school faces difficulties such as, lack of finance to run the school, insufficient machines to meet up with the number of students and indiscipline and arrogance from students amongst others.
